A shirt you earn.
BOLDERBoulder awards a Sub 40 Club shirt for finishing under 40 minutes. That provides a useful precedent for an earned garment. Your proposal rewards personal improvement instead of one fixed time.
AMERICAN BOY SPRINT / SECOND STUDIES
Eight new front-and-back concepts. Wider lettering, quieter backs, sleeve signatures, and a date worth keeping.
2027 is a sample year. These are artwork studies for the 400m event, not announced race dates.
The original monthly library01 / APRIL 2027
Chest-wide lettering and an asymmetric blossom branch. The back lets the club signature breathe.
Concept mockups: exact lettering, placement, and the three overlapping runners need final artwork. Board A (01–04) has a mockup text error: “RUNNER’S” must be corrected to “RUNNERS” in final artwork. Coordinates use XX placeholders; no precise statue location is claimed.
THE DESIGN RULE
Front leads. The event name can stretch across the chest, sit off-center, or work with a large 400. It doesn’t need the same small chest block every time.
Back has a job. Use it for the club name, a date, a location, or artwork. A simple upper-back signature can be enough.
Details travel. Month and year can live on the chest, cuff, or back label. Bronx, New York and Pelham Bay Park take turns; the coordinate idea is an optional treatment.

The official participant mockups place large distance numerals down the body, with different colors and graphic treatments by race. Our side-stripe and Solstice studies explore that freedom using the American Boy Sprint identity.
Rock ’n’ Roll participant shirtsPeachtree’s 2024 winning design combined a peach and Atlanta’s skyline. The useful idea is place expressed through illustration. Here, botanical artwork and Bronx location details can carry that connection without using the statue every time.
Interview with the winning artistBerlin describes its adidas event shirt as breathable, moisture-wicking recycled polyester, while positioning its separate finisher tee for post-race relaxation. That distinction supports choosing the fabric around how the piece will be worn.
Official apparel descriptionsAlso checked: Boston 5K, B.A.A. 10K, and Chicago Marathon participant information. These describe participant-shirt programs; they do not establish the fabric specifications for our proposed pieces. No affiliation is implied.
THE FABRIC CHANGES THE RESULT
A “5K shirt” or “10K shirt” isn’t a single fabric specification. Compare the knit, weight, fit, seams, and decoration together. These are sourcing directions, not verified specifications for the mockups.
| Route | Published reference | Where I’d use it |
|---|---|---|
| Smooth event tee | Sport-Tek ST350: 100% polyester interlock, 3.8 oz/yd² (approximately 129 gsm), moisture-wicking. Manufacturer specification. | Sample first for Bloom, Side Stripe, and simple event layouts. Assess white-fabric opacity when wet and how the chosen print feels. |
| Custom printed race tee | Scimitar lists 140 gsm smooth polyester and an 80 gsm lightweight mesh alternative, plus all-over sublimation and recycled-polyester options. Custom running range. | Botanical wrap and Solstice. Compare both weights in person; lighter mesh can change the visibility of fine type and the runner mark. |
| Stretch / ventilated construction | Craft’s Vent Mesh tee combines a 91% polyester / 9% elastane front and sleeves with a different polyester/elastane mesh back and taped seams. Construction reference. | A later performance tier. Treat panels and ventilation as part of the design, and test graphics across stretch zones. This is a product reference, not a confirmed private-label supplier. |
For flowers, gradients, or graphics that cross panels, sample dye sublimation on suitable light polyester fabric before sewing. Epson notes that this process can retain the fabric’s feel. For simple graphics on dyed blanks, have the decorator test a compatible low-temperature process and dye migration. Don’t assume a large transfer will feel the same as sublimation.

First sampling recommendation: compare a smooth 130–140 gsm polyester tee with an open-mesh alternative using the same graphic. Check comfort, wet opacity, print feel, seam irritation, and the logo after washing before choosing a production route.
